Steiff Animals appeal to everyone; children, naturalists, artists, and collectors . . .The Steiff Animal line was started in 1894 by Margarete Steiff, an invalid.  It has grown to two factories in West Germany, one in Austria, and one in Tunisia.  The famous mohair toys were introduced in 1903.  The workers are paid a premium to work with the mohair used in their manufacturing, as it is so abrasive to the hands.  Yes!  That is Muffy VanDer Bear back center!

When checking into the history of Steiff you will find pieces,as the one seen above, that were made to promote Steiff. The above Country Mouse House was made for and sold by FAO Swartz.  It came with a mouse in an apron with broom, mop, ladder to bunk bed and mattress. It measures 4 1/2" deep x 7" high x 13" wide when closed. The piece is in origional condition complete with the little mirror to left of back wall, 9 small hooks,  2 shelfs, and 1 bunk bed.  All small animals seen are Steiff...to give you an idea of size, the chicks and ducks, front right, are 1" tall.  Just the vintage 1950's house sells for $250.00. . .
